Emergency checklist

What to do immediately after an e-bike accident

Save this page to your phone. If you're in danger, call 911 first.
  1. 01

Get to safety and call 911

Move out of traffic if you can. Report injuries — even ones that seem minor.

  2. 02

    Watch the battery

If it's smoking, hissing or swelling, move away. Lithium-ion fires can reignite. Tell firefighters it's an e-bike battery.

  3. 03

    Get medical care

Head and internal injuries can be delayed. Get checked the same day and keep every record.

  4. 04

    Photograph everything

The scene, vehicles, plates, road, signs, lane markings, your bike, the battery and your injuries.

  5. 05

    Collect names and numbers

Driver, insurance, witnesses, and any delivery app or bike-share account involved.

  6. 06

    Get a police report number

Ask the officer for the report or incident number.

  7. 07

Don't fix or throw out the bike

Keep the bike, battery, charger and helmet exactly as they are.

  8. 08

    Don't give recorded statements

Don't discuss fault with insurers or post about the crash until you've spoken with a lawyer.
