Preserving evidence after an e-bike crash

In e-bike cases, the bike is often the most important witness. Keep it as it was.

The bike

Don't repair, sell or return it. Store it somewhere dry and photograph it from every side, including the class label and serial number.

The battery & charger

Don't charge or open a damaged battery. Store it away from living areas, ideally outdoors in a non-flammable container. After a fire, keep the remains — investigators can often find the cause.

App & ride data

Screenshot and export data from the bike's app, Strava, fitness watches, Citi Bike or delivery apps: speed, route, assist level and time. Request it before it's deleted.

The helmet

Keep it, even if cracked. Damage shows how hard the impact was and that you wore it.

Purchase records

Receipts, product listings, manuals, warranty and any recall notices. Screenshot online listings now.

Video & witnesses

Nearby cameras, doorbells and dashcams overwrite footage quickly — often within days. Ask for it right away.
